Delhi Blast: Accused’s Car Identified as Hyundai i20, Terror Probe Underway

New Delhi, November 11, 2025 — The Delhi Police and central agencies have identified the car used in the Red Fort blast that shook the capital on Sunday evening. Investigators confirmed that the vehicle was a white Hyundai i20 bearing the registration number HR26CE7674. The explosion, which occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station around 6:50 PM, killed at least nine people and injured over twenty others.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the car entered a nearby parking area around 3:19 PM and exited just before the explosion. CCTV footage captured the vehicle moments before the blast, suggesting that it was deliberately positioned near the crowded metro gate. Forensic experts have found traces of ammonium nitrate mixed with fuel oil, though the final confirmation of the explosive compound is still pending.
Officials have detained the previous registered owner, identified as Salman, for questioning after he claimed to have sold the vehicle several months ago. Sources indicate that the car changed hands multiple times across Delhi and Haryana, which has complicated the probe. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Special Cell are jointly examining links to extremist networks, as early intelligence inputs point toward a potential fidayeen-style (suicide) attack.
The primary suspect, identified as Dr. Umar Mohammad from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, is believed to have been in direct connection with the explosive-laden car. Investigators suspect the blast may have been planned in retaliation for recent anti-terror operations in the northern region. Officials have invoked provisions under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to expand the scope of investigation.
Security agencies have issued a nationwide alert, tightening checks across airports, metro networks, and major public venues. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought a detailed report, while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for a high-level security review. For now, the area around Red Fort remains sealed as teams continue to recover evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Authorities urge the public not to spread unverified information on social media, emphasizing that forensic results and chain-of-custody verification are still in progress. The government has assured that updates will be shared once official confirmation on motive and network links is established.
