Pakistan Condemns “Unprovoked Afghan Fire” as Border Crossings Close

Pakistan’s military has accused Taliban-led Afghan forces of carrying out unprovoked firing across several stretches of the border overnight, killing 23 Pakistani soldiers.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistani troops responded “with full force,” destroying multiple Afghan positions and “neutralizing over 200 hostile combatants.”
All major crossings — including Torkham and Chaman — have been sealed, and additional troops have been deployed along the Kurram, Bajaur, and Angoor Adda areas. Officials say the move is a temporary measure to protect civilians and infrastructure.
Islamabad maintains that the clashes were triggered by Afghanistan’s failure to curb Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) sanctuaries. A senior Pakistani official said, “Our patience has limits. We will not tolerate cross-border attacks under any flag.”
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has urged Kabul to restore calm through diplomatic channels, emphasizing that “Pakistan seeks peace, not provocation."
